___ MEDIA WEEK 2025 ___

Light, art and media

International conference of art and media

The Escuela de Artes Plásticas y Audiovisuales BUAP is honored to announce the ten editions of its International Conference of Art and Media: Media Week 2025, which will take place from April 7 to 11, 2025.

Researchers, creators and students who work in the study of arts and media are invited to submit research-creation works that contribute to the advancement of their analysis. The accepted works will be presented at the congress and may be published in the first issue of our digital magazine Art and Media, ARPA.

The theme of the event is the relationship between art and technology in the contemporary world. The focus is on the interaction between art and the technical medium, for which the interdisciplinary nature of research and innovation is necessary, as well as the analysis of artistic and design practice framed in the media to propose new perspectives regarding the art, the artist, his practice and his context.

Technologically mediated experiences in art refer to the creation and appreciation of works that employ technology to expand aesthetic and communicative possibilities. This trend of thinking about technology and art has radically transformed the way in which artists express themselves and how the public interacts with the works. From the inclusion of virtual reality, artificial intelligence and augmented reality to the use of textile or pigment, technology is an essential tool of art and art is a medium in itself.

The theme of this seventh year is light in a broad sense. Light as an expansion of the senses and the creator of new perceptual spaces, in which the distinctions between the physical and the digital, the natural and the artificial, are blurred. Light is understood not only as a vehicle or means of transmitting information, but as a concept that transcends disciplines and opens new paths towards understanding what it means to be human in a world increasingly mediated by technology.

Media Week 2025 explores how light, in its various manifestations and forms, stands as a bridge between art, technology and life itself, transforming not only human perception, but also the understanding of the world around us by reconfiguring us.

The event will be held in hybrid mode from April 7-11, 2024
